Instructions for creating a beginners brew Before you start: Sterilise all equipment that comes into contact with your beer during the brewing process to avoid disappointment. - Clean and sterilise all beer making equipment
- Stand cans in hot water for five minutes
- Pour contents of cans into sterilised fermenter
- Add 1.75 litres (3 pints) of boiling water
- Top up with cold water to 23 litres (40 pints)
- Mix thoroughly to ensure contents are fully dissolved
- Add:
i) Dried hop extract ii) yeast - Cover the fermenter and leave to stand in a warm place (18 - 20 degrees centigrade / 65 - 70 degrees Fahrenheit) for four to six days. Fermentation will be complete when the bubbles cease to rise (If you use a hydrometer when the gravity remains constant below 1020 degrees)
- Transfer the beer into sterilised bottles or sterilised pressure barrel with a little sugar (1/4 of a teaspoon per pint) to help condition the beer
- Stand in bottles or barrel in a warm place for two days
- Then stand in a cool place for fourteen days or until the beer has cleared
- Enjoy!
